Stoned Revivals - The New Way
Probably still my favourite Singapore band. Was very happy that they contributed a track to the For Good compilation at the very last minute. Strangely but not surprisingly, it became the breakout hit. This, I believe, is the slightly reworked version of the one they put out. The video is super simple in concept but pretty good.

He Can Jog
So can I but I haven't done so for a while.
In any case, I've been listening to He Can Jog which is the moniker for Brooklyn sound artist Erik Schoster. He Can Jog churns out electronic glitches and ambient music. It's pretty good. His 2008 album Middlemarch is not groundbreaking but really quite excellent stuff.

In any case, if you feel like you really need to know what happens in Transformer 2: Revenge Of The Fallen, check this page out. As in, really everything. The page contains the movie summary though it could be a fake one.
In any case, the basic premise of the sequel is this:
In the beginning, the Allspark created the Primes, the first 13 Transformers, and they created a device to extract energy from suns, which was powered by the Matrix of Leadership. They searched for suns to harvest, vowing not to destroy suns that provided life to any orbiting worlds.
So when the Primes found ancient Earth, they chose to leave it untouched - except for the Fallen, who rebelled because he wanted the Matrix for himself. The other twelve Primes hid themselves and the Matrix in a tomb, and the Fallen searched for it. Only the last Prime, Optimus, could stop him.
I can't wait to see Michael Bay to blow more shit up!!!

Mono
Errol and Lesley who runs the KittyWu Records label is distributing Mono's latest album Hymn To The Immortal Wind. I'm not a fan but from what I heard from Edwin and Bryan about their live show at Zouk last year, it was ear-bleedingly loud.

Ghostbusters The Video Game trailer
What the fuck?! It doesn't come out on the PSP platform but it does on Nintendo DS?! What the hell?!
I'm seeing this as a very strong crimp on the next Lard Brothers album when we go to Weiyuan's house for recording. When we were mixing down the Great Spy Experiment remix, we started playing Resident Evil 5 half-way through. Let's just say nothing much got done and we left in quite a few mistakes which we overlooked (or in this case, overheard - isn't it wrong usage?) in the 'final' mix.

Adam Brody who used to star in the O.C has an indie band formed with a couple of buddies. He bangs the drums. You can check out Big Japan's stuff here. Though there's nothing much for you to do now, just keep your day job as an actor.
Bret Harrison, star of Reaper (which I like a fair bit) plays lead guitar. I wonder if the SG or the eBow are vessels to send souls back to Hell... Hmmm...

Unknown pleasures...
Was out with Billy and Aaron for a Happy Hour beer before Robin joined me for a dinner of, what else, steamboat.
In any case, Billy and I are considering to get an ink each to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our bromance. Well, it's still 2 years shy of the actual year but we can always plan early. It could even be a matching one.
It's sooooo gay, I know... An idea is to do the cover of Joy Division's seminal album Unknown Pleasures. All I hope is that you don't do the black areas around the design like what Rage Against The Machine's bassist Tim Commerford does. It's too brutal for me. I've a low threshold of pain.

The Grudge game trailer
I remember playing 'Fatal Frame' on XBox years ago. I nearly peed my fuckin' pants while going through the game. And it was in a friend's gaming shop with all the lights on. I think we nearly clutched each other in fright. It was that good. Weiyuan had the game (the sequel, I think) on when he was doing a housewarming party years back. It was still pretty freaky even when we were drinking absynth at the time.
The Grudge looks like it could be the same. I wonder if the game will come out on the PSP platform?

Zero Point Red
Linda (who married the sexiest man in Geylang) and her 2 boys in Lunarin just put up 'Zero Point Red' which they did as the closing credits song for the documentary 'Big Brother 2' on their MySpace page.
She was nice to send me the song last April (I think). They had the tune on hold for that long. It's a bit different from what they did before. The song is under 3 minutes. Unbelieveable. Yeah. Nice shoes, Kah Wye.

Playing for Change: Stand By Me

This cover of Stand By Me was recorded by completely unknown artists in a street virtual studio all around the world. It all started with a base track—vocals and guitar—recorded on the streets of Santa Monica, California, by a street musician called Roger Ridley. The base track was then taken to New Orleans, Louisiana, where Grandpa Elliott—a blind singer from the French Quarter—added vocals and harmonica while listening to Ridley's base track on headphones. In the same city, Washboard Chaz's added some metal percussion to it.
And from there, it just gets rock 'n' rolling bananas: The producers took the resulting mix all through Europe, Africa, and South America, adding new tracks with multiple instruments and vocals that were assembled in the final version you are seeing in this video. All done with a simple laptop and some microphones.
From the award-winning documentary, "Playing For Change: Peace Through Music", comes the first of many "songs around the world" being released independently. Featured is a cover of the Ben E. King classic by musicians around the world adding their part to the song as it travelled the globe.

The David Sparkle boys were playing in a Hanoi Music Festival last Saturday and the headlining act was this New Zealand electronic act Minuit. While it's not exactly groundbreaking, it sounds pretty good. Check them out here.

The Lard Brothers are postponing the (online) release of their remix album 'My Grandmother Can Remix Better Than You, Fatboy!'. They will attempt to put it out on National Day, Sunday 9 August 2009. Another National Day release? These guys are soooooo predictable. Why the delay? The new guard of The Lard Brothers Inc.'s executive committee has overruled the old guard's decision of releasing it in June. They cited that the old guard's direction for being industrious and punctual went against what The Lard Brothers Inc. stood for originally: "Fat and lazy".

This one was written by his son but essentially a derivation from the main theme of the Cinema Paradiso theme song. I love it.
Superman March (live)
I'm skipping 'Star Wars'. Everyone knows that... way too well. But I really love John Williams's score for Superman. Especially when you watched it when you were 6 and listening to this, you will believe a man can fly.
Batman theme
This is a classic by Danny Elfman. I love it. The movie tune 'Batdance' by Prince was crap though. I used to have the OST somewhere around. Must dig for it.
Halloween theme
I've never even watched a single movie before, not even the Rob Zombie's rebooted franchise. But director John Carpenter of the first movie is cool. He writes most of his movies' soundtracks and records them as well. His style is very much synthesizers as opposed to the rest of the abovementioned guys whose styles are more epic orchestral. I guess it has something to do with the budget too. Heh.
David Bowie - Sound And Vision (live)
I was lucky to have caught the man live 5 years ago when he was in town for his 'Reality' world tour. Probably, one of the best 3 concerts I've ever seen live. He's nothing short of amazing live. Check out the intense backing band, led by Gerry Leonard. This song is the one which Manic Street Preachers ripped off for their 'Rose In The Hospital'.

Simply as designed...
Max is coming over to Weiyuan's track his vocals for 'Boys And Girls' which we are interpolating (I love such fancy words) Daze's 'Sexy Little Boy' into the tune. Way thanks to Don Bosco for giving us permission and 5 stars in the 8 Days review for Forest Action Team. Weiyuan still talks about that all the time.
The concept for the next album Simply As Designed is your typical boy-meets-girl love story for the first act. Max is singing the part of the boy. Yes, some of you might have thought he'd be more suitable for the role of the girl. But no.
In the song, Max "plays" the protaganist who is trying to get the girl-of-his-dreams to go home with him after the school prom. Ah, teenage drunken wanton sex. Everybody loves that. The tune will be done in the vein of one of our favourite acts, Pet Shop Boys with Zero Sequence's Simon helping us out with a finger-tapping guitar solo ala Michael Jackson's 'Beat It'.

The Complaints Choir invites people to complain as much as they want and to sing their complaints out loud together with fellow complainers. The first choir was organised in Birmingham followed by other cities around the globe. The lyrics were written by the Choir, the song was composed and conducted by Chong Wai Lun. I love this show and followed it quite religiously when I was a wee lad. Was talking to Robin that I can totally remember the Sesame Street theme song. But for the life of me, I could never remember the theme song for The Electric Company, except for the intro line. Heh. The music is damn nice 70's psychedelic funk. Love it.

Drayden's birthday
I was invited to Drayden's first birthday party last Sunday by the parents Noel and Ann. It was good fun, except for the fact that it was held at fuckin' Changi!!!
The goodie bag was insane but I didn't manage to get one. The whole party was Cookie Monster themed. Read about it here. I love the very 'cham' look on his face in the picture above. Hahaha, cracks me up.
I swear children's parties are an excuse for the adults to have fun more than an event for the kids. I mean, Drayden will grow up, not remembering a single thing from this event. But Uncle Willy will tell him: your dad was drunk and your mum was cycling around in a small tricycle meant for kids 7 years and below.

The track 'Second Coming' features Jerome Kugan on vocals. Dammit, everybody wants a piece of Jerome. Me and Robin are trying to finish up 2 tracks for both him and MC Vandal before heading up to Kuala Lumpur to track their vocals.
And the best thing is: Irman's agreed to do a remix for us. Woo hoo!
I'm currently stuck for the remix album which is supposed to be out on 1 June. The remix of amberhaze's 'Crush' is confounding me. I've no idea how to move on with the track. Fuck. And I've the stems (or individual tracks) of Adlin and Chingz's electronic-pop act Like Silver's 'Werewolves', DJ Koflow's 'Bank Street' and Breakbeat Theory's 'Serial Killers' looking at me. And I've no idea what to do with them. Well, not really for 'Bank Street' and 'Werewolves'. But still...

The Girlfriend Experience trailer
Steven Soderbergh (who rocks)'s new film stars Sasha Grey who is a well-known adult entertainment star. Kinho said that Soderbergh should have used Stoya instead. Woooo, Stoya. That'd be very nice.

He is developing his next directing effort, a 3-D live-action rock musical film based on Cleopatra's life, with Catherine Zeta-Jones in talks to play Cleopatra, and with music by the band Guided by Voices. Soderbergh and scriptwriter Jim Greer will rewrite the lyrics of the songs to fit the story. Hugh Jackman was approached to play Mark Antony but withdrew. Soderbergh plans to begin filming in April 2009.
Sasha Grey's pretty hot and is involved in several non-porn projects such as James Gunn's 'PG Porn'. James Gunn did the fabulous 'Silther' which starred Nathon Fillion (whom I've a broner for) and Elizabeth Banks (whom I've a boner for). Tricky - Black Steel (live)
It's an amazing cover of my favourite Public Enemy track. Great stuff. The interesting thing is Tricky doesn't perform on this track. Hahaha.
Check out this tune 'Hell Is Round The Corner'. Yeah, some other trip-hop act also sampled the same strings on their classic tune. And this one 'Pumpkin' which features Alison Goldfrapp before she became famous as a diva. 'Pumpkin' contains a sample of Smashing Pumpkins' 'Suffer' which for the life of me I cannot recognise which part he chopped it out from.

Bob Mould
I've just heard his new album Life And Times, courtesy of Daniel. It's pretty decent, reminding me the first time when I've heard his previous band Sugar. It seems like an interesting statement of his music from his punk roots to his power-pop days to his recent forays into electronic music.
Bob Mould's from the same league of alternative indie rockers from the 80's like R.E.M and The Pixies. I love the Sugar stuff which was decidely more power-pop but wasn't crazy about his 80's hardcore punk stuff with Hüsker Dü. Hüsker Dü had a direct influence on the early 90's alternative rock acts like Nirvana. So you know the dude's of pedigree stock.
Check out some of Sugar's catalogue here. My favourite album is File Under: Easy Listening which I did a reference to the Lunarin remix I did a few years back. Absolutely no correlation and random, I know. Who cares?

Scott Walker: 30th Century Man trailer
Wooo, I didn't know there was a documentary about him. Brian Wilson is just as weird as Scott Walker but he gets all the fame though.
Scott Walker has probably the same amount of influence on popular and modern day British rock as The Beatles or even more. He counts people like Radiohead, Blur, The Last Shadow Puppets, The Divine Comedy, Jarvis Cocker and many more as his disciples. The man is probably one of the weirdest musical geniuses ever.

Child Rebel Soldier - Us Placers
'Us Placers' is the debut single of Child Rebel Soldier, a supergroup consisting of rap artists Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams. The song contains a prominent sample of Thom Yorke's "The Eraser", incorporating the song's signature piano loops along with a vocal sample of Yorke's refrain for the chorus. The track appears on Kanye's Can't Tell Me Nothing mixtape and has circulated throughout the internet. Having been released on an exclusive mixtape, the song didn't enter the charts but managed to become listed at #43 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.

The Love Experiment
Some of us were playing in the music group before. We recorded some tunes on our own. This was one of the oldest tunes which we ever wrote... like back in 2004. We've actually gone through this song with Andy, our original drummer and Melvin who was with us from 2004 to 2005.
The final version of 'Pomegranate' was recorded with Agilan on drums. Here's the product. This is my mix done on headphones which is not the best idea. But the tune was sitting in the hard disk drive for more than a year.
So what the hell... in the wise words of Ah Boy, owner of TNT Studios: "Not like you are going to win a Grammy right..."

About a month ago, The Lard Brothers and Bryan crafted an elaborate joke: We decided to form a shoegazing band.
And we named ourselves Galactica. After our beloved space opera TV series, of course. The game plan was to go into the recording studio and knock out as many tunes as possible. Record them live and see how many people will take us seriously.
Yes, go check your MySpace friends now. We might be in your list.
We managed to churn out 3 tunes 'Saul's Tighs' (Nope, not a spelling mistake, you non-BattleStar Galactica fan infidel!), 'Gaius Is Crying... Again' and 'I Wish I Were A Cylon'. Hear Robin warble his way through some lines about Max being gay, how men are from Mars, women from Venus and Max is from Uranus...
The love can be found here. Strangely, an San Francisco-based shoegaze band, Foreign Cinema added us, thinking we were a serious act. Hmm... In all cases, they are pretty alright themselves. Check them out here.

This song is out about 2 years ago. Wish they did a video for an upcoming song instead.
But this kinda reminded of the Plainsunset one which is shot on an airstrip. Like U2's 'Beautiful Day' video. This is like U2's 'Elevation' concept of having the same band 'duelling' itself. Hmmm, I didn't know that Singaporean music video directors were so fond of Irish men...

I kinda lost interest in Belle & Sebastian a few years back. It was like probably like 8 years ago. Time flies.
This is courtesy of Stereogum. Head honcho Stuart Murdoch forms a project band to sing the extra songs he has, gets his full-time band to record the album and auditions a number of really cute brunettes to be the singers for the project. And I mean, really cute. The official site is here.

Lupe Fiasco (ft Matt Santos) - Superstar (live)
Matt Santos sang the vocal hook on the original recording. This is pretty cool. They did an acoustic version of the tune. Rap with an acoustic guitar. Nice. Maybe, this is where the roots of Lupe Fiasco's idea for Japanese Cartoon came from. Hmmm...
In any case, I'm looking forward to catch him live at this year's Worldwide Festival! The full band version is found here.
